Description Report on behalf of the Political Committee on the Treaty of the
accession of the Kingdom of Denmark, Ireland, the Kingdom of Norway and the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the European
Communities. Rapporteur: Mr Lucien RADOUX.
While the Treaties establishing the European Communities did not explicitly
provide for a formal intervention by the European Parliament in the case of the
accession of new members, the Political Committee reaffirmed the moral and
political duty of the European Parliament to participate in the procedures which
will sanction the decision on accession to the European Communities of the
Kingdom of Denmark, Ireland, the Kingdom of Norway and the United Kingdom.
